reading the recent post I did a reload index and then and Install
Bundle::CPAN

Things did go well - no make errors. However I did get the following
message:

Bundle summary: The following items in bundle Bundle::CPAN had
installation
problems:
ExtUtils::CBuilder File::Spec Digest::SHA Compress::Zlib
Archive::Zip
Term::ReadKey

What is the significance of this message?

Thanks

Looking over my output and checking for stuff on the internet it may be
that my gcc is not linked to the command cc.

I have Ubuntu Edgy and I seem to have gcc installed according to Synaptic.
I am not sure how a link between cc and gcc can be accomplished.

No good. You should retry one by one to fill the gap. Maybe they can
be installed on the second try. Maybe you have just to restart the
CPAN shell with the updated CPAN.pm and then you succeed on 'install
Bundle::CPAN', I don't know. Nowadays I would recommend 'install
Bundle::CPANxxl' to get the most out of CPAN.pm. But usually it works
best to first upgrade CPAN.pm itself ('install CPAN;pm'), then restart
the shell, and then install one of the bundles.

I have gone ahead and tried rerunning install Bundle::CPAN after closing
it down and restarting severel times. It seems to me that all the
failures are associated with not being able to install Compress:Zlib.

Here is a sampleof the sort of errors:
