Who pays for CPAN?

Hi. I am looking into setting up something analogous to CPAN for
another language (Common Lisp). One thing I was wondering about, that
I have not been able to find out, is who pays for running CPAN? It
seems to me that there must be some costs for hosting, DNS
registration, disk space, mirrors, and the sysadmin work that such a
repository would inevitably require. Is this all done on a volunteer
basis, with contributed systems that are administered by someone else,
etc? Or is there some organization helping out financially?

Thanks very much.

CPAN is a lot of things, so talking about who hosts it is hard. The most
important aspects (for this conversation) are the upload site, the master
fileserver, the mirrors, and the search interface.

http://cpan.org will note that Funet hosts the master. PAUSE, the Perl Author
Upload Something Erother is hosted by FIZ Chemie Berlin. Search
(search.cpan.org) is hosted by The Perl.org Guys on hardware provided by
BizRate. I don't know who pays for DNS.

LOTS of people operate CPAN mirrors. Businesses, individuals, schools, etc.
